Château de Lanquais

Known as Perigord's unfinished Lourve. The splendid Renaissance Palace was built by the same craftsmen, who built the Louvre in Paris.

Built in 1308, it boasts 35 restored rooms, including the hall of secrets. The basement is home to an ethnological museum (Archeology, Vines and Wine, Popular Art and traditional Agriculture) offering an insight into rural life over the centuries.

Château de Monbazillac

Sitting overlooking the magnificent views of Bergerac and the famous vineyards. The 16th century château, is home to a wine museum and collection of 17th century furniture.

Built in the late 15th century by Baron Berenger de Roquefeuil. A stunning fortified castle with seven turrets and six towers, one of which is classed as the most beautiful in the country.

Château de Castelnaud

Castelnaud is perched high on the rocks offering magnificent panoramic views over the Dordogne valley.
There is a collection of 13th-17th century weapons and armour, audio-visual aids, video games and life-sized reconstructions of war engines. All helping you to discover the art of war in the Middle Ages, as well as the lives of those who lived at Castelnaud.

Comments: One of the best all round chateaux and therefore one of the most popular. There is lots of climbing so wear sensible shoes! Well worth a visit with river close by for picnics and canoeing.

 
     

Château des Milandes

Built in 1489 the château des Milandes enjoys magnificent views over the Dordogne valley.

It was home to the legendary Josephine Baker, and houses an extraordinary homage to her life, with wax statues, stage costumes, photos and memorabilia.
